Let's get the Music rolling...

So, who are you're top 2 favourite bands? Why? Favourite songs?

1) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Because I think they're unique and talented combining rock and funk together to make an individual sound which when they first came out, no other bands really had.

Favourite songs have gotta be: Rivers Of Avalon, I Could Die For You, Can't Stop, The Zephyr Song, Venice Queen, Otherside, Scar Tissue, Under The Bridge, Give It Away...

2) Megadeth - Because they're sound is amazing, they play wonderful heavy metal music and have a really unique sound, alot of their songs show ultimate instrumental talent and I think they're great.

Favourite songs : Mary Jane, Hangar 18, Holy Wars..The Punishment, Sweating Bullets, Five Magics, Psychotron, Rust In Peace, Wanderlust and Tornado Of Souls.

Ooooohhhh so many! How can you make me choose? OKies...

1) MUSE: Matt Belamy just has an amazing voice, he is also extremely talented on both the guitar and the piano. They're AMAZING live, come out with some fantastic tunes. They're FIT. And do wicked videos. In fact there's nothing I DON'T like about them!

Fave songs: Uno, Cave, Unintended, Falling Away, In Your World, Plug In Baby, Hyper Music, Darkshines, Bliss, New Born, Time Is Runing Out, Stockholm Syndrome, Thought of a Dying Atheist, Hysteria.....

2) Green Day - the ultimate cheer up band! Plus they can carry off eyeliner. Again they're amazing live, extremely talented and some of their songs are so funny you just have to laugh. The carry off serious just as well and come out with some proper singalong tunes!

Fave songs: Minority, The Grouch, Nice Guys Finish Last, Macy's Day Parade, Redundant, Good Riddance, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Are We The Waiting, Warning, Basket Case, When I come Around

Other bands deserving honourable mentions:

Only two bands

1. Metallica - grew up with the early albums and saw them live several times, just loved the speed and agression mixed with subtle time changes and original bass lines

2. Jeffrson Airplane/ Great Society - Listened to them heavily during my more relaxed moments at Uni so the music holds some dear memories for me.

Honourable mentions have to go to

Dumpys Rusty Nuts - A great Rock and Blues band who I still cant listen to without smiling

Macc Lads - Good old fashioned full on punk/rock with a great sense of humour and ability to stick two fingers up at the pc world we live in

Iron Maiden - What needs to be said one of a kind and one of the first of the NWOBHM

Black Sabbath - such morrose and dark music with out them would we have half the metal there is today

the list could go on but two others have to be mentioned

Leanord Cohen and Neil Diamond such great song writers and amazing talents the world would be a poorer place with out them

1) Linkin Park. Why? Growing up, I was into pop music and my taste changed upon entering my teens. I ended up falling (yes falling) into the Rap/Hip Hop scene, more specifically, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony (STILL love them...they'd be #3 now). Well, after learning every last one of their songs, I decided I didn't want to act like I was Afrcan American anymore...so in an effort to embrace my "own culture" I started listening to rock, then eventually hard rock. Linkin Park was there when I made this decision and they are THE PERFECT blend of Rap and Rock...nobody NOBODY does it better. And their words just hit home for me...
Favorite Song by LP: P54NG M3 AWY from the Reanimation Album (Track 6)

2) Flaw. Why? I started listening to Flaw by accident. I was searching for a new band to listen to and came across the Scorpion King Soundtrack. Flaw had a song on there that made me go "Ooh...I'm gonna buy that CD" and sure enough, I bought it. From cover to cover my first impression was simply AMAZED. FINALLY a hard rock band with a positive message in nearly every song. Poetic, heartfelt lyrics sang over passionate guitar chords (albeit pretty simple). I think there isn't a band out there that does the transition from hard to soft within a single song so fluidly and emotionally...
Favorite Song by Flaw: "Not Enough" from the Endangered Species Album (Track 12)

StarDust

All time favorite: Eric Clapton! :D He has been my absolute favorite ever since I can remember. Never get tired of listening to any of his music. Love his guitar technique and love his lyrics...he has just the best combination.

I watched a Cream reunion concert on MPBN a couple of nights ago...It was really cool...but strange seeing these Old Grey Haired men playing such awesome music lol.

I'd say my favorite songs of his would be:
Have You Ever Loved a Woman (guitar and lyrics)
Wonderful Tonight (lyrics lol..and yeah..it's OLD like me hehe)
Layla
Before You Accuse Me
Alberta (lol..it's acoustic)

OK...there's too many lol..I could go on and on.

Stevie Ray Vaughan would be my second...just an incredible guitarist and sometimes fun, lol..as in Mary Had a Little Lamb...love that song! :p

Two bands too hard?

How about your favourite bands.. maxmium being 10.. or this could take a wee while lol.

Black Sabbath I totally agree.

AC/DC is another of my favourites... Angus Young is a genius, they manage to make songs that keep you interested and have had ana amazing career with a very large fan base because they're songs attract so many people.

It's hard to say I like a lot of bands and try not to fall into getting picky on favourites, but I'd have to say:

1.- The Beatles: because they make simple yet deep music, and have no set sound. Few songs sound alike and they cover nearly every type of feeling you can think of. And they are brittish, to boot.

Fave songs? So many.. : Come together, Drive my car, Yesterday, Can't buy me Love, Get back, Hey Jude, Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine, Paperback writer, Day tripper, Help!, Love me do, Free as a bird, My Michelle, etc. :P

2.- AC/DC: They are energy-filled, and can make you get out of even the worst moments with their superb catchy and punch-packing riffs. And they are australian, to reboot.

Fave's?: Back in Black, Highway to Hell, Hell's Bells, Thunderstruck, You shook me all night long, TNT, Ballbreaker, WHo made Who, For those about to rock, Spellbound

3.- Guns N' Roses (old formation): Some beautiful songs, some rocking tunes. Amazing talent and unique sound, who else can take you down to Paradise City?

Few here really: Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child o' Mine, Paradise City, Knocking on Heaven's door, November Rain and Civil War

4.- RHCP: quite like Arwin really, they are very unique and talented in their own way, in that they express very down-to-earth emotions and situations (Under the Bridge, Give it away) with amazing simplicity, but great beauty.
Under the Bridge, Can't Stop, By the way, Give it away, Californication, Scar Tissue, you know what? Just copy all the ones Arwin posted.

5.- Led Zeppelin: I've only heard a few led zep songs so far, but they've all reached deep into me, Stairway to Heaven is, to me, the most beautiful music ever made, and all the rest of their songs are class, I will get around to hearing them all someday, they have a massive collection hehe

They are: Stairway to Heaven (*drool*), Heartbreaker, Black Dog, Achilles Last Stand, Houses of the Holy, Inmigrant Song.

Whoah Ichigo, don't get too descriptive on us! :p

1.) System of A Down - I never heard anything like them. They made such unique music, combining metal with Middle Eastern music in Hypnotize, I would have never guessed.

Favorite songs: Chop Suey, Sugar, Spiders, Question, She's Like Heroin

2.) Reel Big Fish - Simply the first 3ed wave ska I ever heard.

Favorite songs: A.W.E.S.O.M.E., Sell Out, Drinking Song.

Arwin
01-08-2006, 07:33 AM
Penguin, I agree with Reel Big Fish.

And also they have to be one of the happiest bands I've heard, they're songs all have uplifting beats and there is musical talent with trumpets and such used within the band. ( All happy songs maybe not including Drunk Again).

Seeing them again in a Month.:D

Well my bands seem to change quite often, but at the moment i'm mostly listening to Between the Buried and Me. A fantastic band if you like the sounds of converge, DEP, but with the strangeness off System and the bizarely heaviness of Tool. All i can say amazing guitar work.

psycho you just listed most of my faves in there too :D

Hendrix is a virtuosso, he totally reinvented the way people look at guitar, so much that even today he still casts a long shadow over most rock music!

I hadn't but I got curious and went to their website - Heavy Metal Poetry? (Alex Rasmussen sounds familiar somehow...)

Now I'm more curious - and if you like that Psycho, try Elend - it's what Dante's Inferno would be if it was music instead of poetry... very metal opera/poetry. :)

like everyone says, very difficult to narrow it down to just 2, but here goes:

1 - Madness.. without a doubt my fave band ever, always will be.
fave songs: primrose hill, wings of a dove, mr speaker, dissapear, etc etc

2 - Steve Harley.. only pipping the Who to the post because he writes so beautifully, and man what a live performance. Not that the Who don't do either of those things, but this moment in time, Harley gets it.
fave songs: the last feast, dino, riding the waves, psychomodo

well, I guess I stand out of this forum, at least in terms of music taste. But each to his own (as long as no one goes on yelling that linkin park is a real metal band or features a good guitarist ^^)

two favourite bands. . . thats a toughie. . . I guess i will have to go with Cannibal Corpse and Dreamtheater. Cannibal Corpse because it is just the most evil, most poweful and (apart from a few others) the most meaningful band when it comes to lyrics.

Dreamtheater because it is THE band. . . and thats no understatement. It is the most progressive and definetley the most virtuous band around! John Petrucci is not human, ive been playing guitar for 8 years and i still cant play his soli! everyone of you who ever listened to dreamtheater will have to admit, that they are incredible. (and if you have never heard from them, get songs like "Octavarium" "A change of season" or "Metropolis prt I)

Well, I considered going the way a lot of these slack-jawed, non-listening yokels went and just name every band I could in a vain attempt to look like some pretentious know-it-all music guru but instead I'm going to list my TWO favorite bands, why I like them, and some of my favorite tunes from said artists.

1. The Beatles: Forget that Lennon and McCartney are possibly two of the greatest songwriters in history. Forget that because of the Beatles, we have The Who, The Animals, The Rolling Stones, and The Kinks. And PLEASE, PLEASE forget that because of dummy Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson owns more rights to Beatles music than the actual Beatles. (I was always a Lennon fan anyway). The reason I love this band so much is because of my father. I remember many days between the ages of 4-12 where the family would sit around the living room while Dad spun records on the record player. All classic rock on vinyl. I remember the biggest smiles being on his face when the Beatles were playing.....I guess that always stuck with me.

Faves: Here, There, and Everywhere, I'm Only Sleeping, Hey Jude, Helter Skelter, Rocky Raccoon, The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill, Hide Your Love Away, Ticket to Ride, Across the Universe, I've Got a Feeling, Two of Us, Let It Be, I Saw Her Standing There, A Day In The Life, In My Life

2. Guns N Roses: Slash is a god amongst men. The 'Slow Hand' of Metal. While you can argue that Axl's voice can be somewhat of a hindrance to the band at sometimes, he MORE than made up for it in his songwriting. These guys stole rock back from those sissy lipstick wearing hair bands. Most people read stories about the rock and roll life; the drinking, the drugging, the fighting, the near death experiences and riots and full fledged anarchism; these guys LIVED it.

Faves: November Rain, It's So Easy, Patience, Rocket Queen, Welcome to the Jungle, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Estranged, Get In The Ring, Dust N Bones, Sweet Child 'O Mine, Mr. Brownstone, Used To Love Her

I'm sure I've posted here before and probly the same bands but lets give this another go since Sim resurrected the thread.

1) Flaw (Chris Volz is a God)

Never before have I listened to a metal band with such heartfelt lyrics and beyond that, Volz sings them with utter passion. THeir first album included 90% positive message (I know sounds wack but the style, people) and fluid Hard/Soft transitions. Again, his voice is filled with such emotion that you can't help but FEEL what he is saying. Lyrics are poetry in motion. THeir second album was more of the same but a bit softer in general. Still, they touch on wordly topics and such things as coming up short. It's Volz voice that does it for me though. In "Not Enough" the desperation makes your heart just melt. Sadly, Volz has gone onto a new band called Five.Bolt.Main and Flaw is no more. Commercial radio sucks.

Fav Songs: WORLD'S DIVIDE, Recognize, Amendment, My Letter, Decide, Medicate, Only The Strong, Payback, Reliance, etc. etc. etc. lol

2) Linkin park...More specifically MIKE SHINODA

I have a newfound respect for Mike Shinoda. I can no longer call Linkin Park one of ym favorite bands becuase I now hear where Mike's genius plays in. His lyrics are also GREAT poetry. Though he doesn't have the benefit of SINGING, instead he raps, he still manages to get soem emotion acroass with his words alone. In Fort Minor, again he floors me. His messages are delivered in such a way that amke you go "daaaaaaarnnnnn" (Cigarettes, Back Home). Niot to mention in my opinion one ofthe BEST aRap Songs EVER written "Right Now" which is simply a man taking a look at the world around him while making a gtreat change in his own life. You've all been there.

Fav Songs: Right Now, Cigarettes, In The End, Carousel (best Linkin Park song NOBODY'S heard), Easier To Run, Don't Stay, With You
