Sam Smelter realized that he was most probably in shock. His beloved wife was dead, brutally stabbed, and yet the tears would not come. He should be bawling his eyes out, howling to the heavens, cursing fate and denouncing god. Instead he just stood there, staring at Hannah’s body, filled with an emptiness he had never before felt.

Who could have done such a thing? These were supposed to be their friends, this was supposed to be a fun filled night! Surely none of them could be capable of this, and yet the evidence was right there before him for everyone to see.

On shaky legs he made his way to the bar and poured himself first one, and then another stiff drink. He said nothing to anyone as he sat in a chair and sipped his second drink. He could hear them talking, but he wasn’t listening. After nearly a minute of this he suddenly stood and violently threw his glass against a wall, with a might clash the glass shattered and the room became silent.

“Why…..why would anyone do this?”

Shaking, Esmeralda could not take her eyes from Hannah. Who could have done this. Why? She asked herself as the tears continued to fall. She could see how they thought it was her...covered in her blood and all.

Staring at the body she could think of nothing more then why did it have to be Hannah? Why did some one kill her? Stepping back against the counter she leaned heavily on it. "I did not do it. I couldn't...not Hannah."

"...I have no idea what you do any more! It's like you're a whole different person around m-!" Saundra Westray cuts her sentence short when she notices bars have come down over the bedroom windows. (Her and her husband thought it was better not to fight in front of all the other guests.) She remembers long ago when her friend Hannah told her about their new security system. She remembers her telling her that they would only use it in extreme emergencies. Fearing the worst, Saundra hurries toward where she hears everyone's voices not worried about tripping in her heals.

On her way there she sees her daughter who asks what's going on. As calm as she can, she answers "Don't worry sweetie. I think it's just a little argument over what's for dinner." then changing the subject "Why don't you look around the house. I'm sure in a house as big as this there must be various treasures here." trying to peek her interests.

After she sees her daughter leave, Saundra enters the kitchen to a horrid sight. Her friend, her secret love was laying on the floor dead. Unable to help herself, Saundra starts to cry hysterically (blurring the vision of her green eyes) running over to Hannah's body pushing anyone in her way. She takes Hannah in her arms collapsing over her covering the thirty-seven year old's blue blouse, short skirt and brown hair in blood. After a few minutes, she brushes the hair out of Hannah's face with her now bloody hand as her tears fall on Hannah's pale lifeless face. "N-No!! You can't be dead! Y-You can't!! WAKE UP!! PLEASE WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!" she screams holding Hannah in her arms as tears stream down her face.

Go look around the house? This answer, though exactly as expected, wasn't satisfactory at all to Lorrie. Perhaps she would have been less frustrated had she asked her father first. For a moment, she actually contemplated following her mother's advice; the house was large and she had mostly attempted to remain in areas filled with other guests and curtail the wanderings that children at adult functions always ended up making at one point of the night or the other, and she had been vaguely interested to see the parts that were off the beaten track. However, something about her mother's demeanor caught her attention and made this, whatever it was, infinitely more interesting than exploring the house. After all, the house would still be there, wouldn't it?

With an impatient sigh she realized that her mother, anxious and worried over something that had to have been more important than what to serve for dinner (besides, wouldn't the menu have been fixed way before they arrived?), was either so worried about whatever was going on that she wanted to get rid of her daughter before investigating or was attempting to feign nonchalance and act as if she didn't care what Lorrie did. Clearly, Lorrie was going to have to investigate on her own, with no clues to go on (having no real knowledge of the house or their hosts or dinner parties in general), or she was going to have to tag along on her mother's discovery, because Lorrie Westray knew that her mother could lead her to the issue, whatever it was, if Lorrie only followed for long enough. Saundra was a good friend of Hannah's, the Westrays were often invited to parties and other functions when they hosted, and she was likely to be able to worm her way into figuring out what the situation was before it became common knowledge. It would be easier, she decided, to ditch her mother and double back.

Leaving the room, she re-entered it just in time to see her mother disappear through the door that led to the kitchen. Perplexed, Lorrie followed. She'd been to the kitchens earlier in the evening, when excitement had made it nearly impossible to sit still for too long, but it had been boring and beyond any real mention. It was just, well, a kitchen, and Lorrie doubted that anything interesting would be in there if she returned. Maybe her mother really did believe the foolishness she had spouted about arguing over dinner? Doubt made her take her time crossing the room to the door her mother had just used, and the timing of her entrance had much to be desired.

One step through the door and Lorrie froze in her tracks. Blood was everywhere, her mother was in hysterics on the floor clutching someone in her arms, several people were scattered around the room looking angry while a few others looked distraught and faint. What on earth had happened here? Lorrie's numb mind wanted to know. The kitchen certainly wasn't boring anymore...

They all seemed to be more destroyed by the death of his wife than he was, that thought did not sit well with Sam but no matter how hard he willed it otherwise he just couldn’t feel anything but numb. He wondered if he would ever feel anything again now that his beloved Hannah had been taken from him. He watched as Saundra took his wife into her arms and cried over her body, he watched as little Lorrie stood and stared at the scene before her, watched as Kurt accused Esmeralda and Esmeralda in turn tearfully denied any involvement.

Sam couldn’t imagine it to be Esmeralda, the old eccentric woman had always been kind to him and Hannah, but any monster that could do this would have to be able to put on a kind mask. It could be Esmeralda he realized, it could be any of them. He had never trusted the police, he had never trusted the legal system, if he let them leave his wife’s killer would get away with it…that is something he could never live with.

Going to his room he got a sheet from their bed, his bed now he supposed, and brought it to the kitchen. Taking Saundra by the arms he lifted her away from his wife’s body and gave her a gentle nudge towards her daughter standing in the doorway. Taking one last look at his wife he laid the sheet over her and then went into the dining room and began to speak in a very loud voice so all would here.

“Someone in this house is a murderer, they killed my beloved Hannah and they will pay for it! As you have all no doubt seen, this house has quite an advanced security system. You could search for a year and you would never find a way out of here now that it has been activated, there is no way out. None leave until I know who killed my wife, and that person is brought to justice by my own hand. Come forth now you murderous monster and save the rest of these people here from having to die beside you, because I swear I would rather have us all rot here and die of starvation than let you walk out of here!”

Staring at Saundra as she dove to the floor and scooped Hannah into her arms. The wan was heart broken. Gasping she looked up at Sam, then back to Saundra and back at Sam.

'Lord what a mess.' She thought as she could see the woman more then cared for Hannah...was in fact in love with her. Watching the faces of the others in the room. Who gould have done this?

Standing to the side of the kitchen, Penelope watched the reactions of everyone who hand entered the room. Her co worker's body was now covered with a sheet. Leaning against the wall she could not help but wonder if someone had done this in reaction to what she had been told.

Saundra tries to fight back Sam prying her away from Hannah until she sees her daughter standing in the doorway. She ruses over to her and quickly rushes her out of the kitchen; no child her age should see that.

Once in the other room, Saundra looks at her daughter and softly says "I'm sorry you had to see that....No one your age should see that..." as Sam is making his statement to the crowd.
